The nation’s capital was transformed into a haven for all things patriotic this weekend, as almost 1 million people flocked Washington, D.C., to celebrate President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. Among the crowd were quite a few celebs, who kept it spexy and shady for the many star-studded affairs—including swearing-in ceremonies, high-energy performances, the beloved parade and numerous balls.

Sunwear proved to be a hot commodity for A-listers during both the indoor and outdoor hoopla. Stevie Wonder was swanky in silver geometric shades with mirrored lenses; Jay-Z flaunted his swagger in modernized aviators; and love birds John Mayer and Katy Perry stayed cozy in wayfarers and cat-eye shades, respectively. Likewise, other stars added sophistication to their looks with eyewear. will.i.am was seen in round gold frames; Hillary Clinton in rectangular eyeglasses; and Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s fiancé Justin Mikita in geeky specs.
